December | Veneto Dinner at La Vètta – Christmas in Venice
Venice at Christmas glows with festive light. Piazza San Marco fills with music, and the Rialto Bridge mirrors itself in the Grand Canal. Yet beyond its landmarks, it is food and wine that carry the true heart of Veneto. The region produces more DOC wines than any other in Italy. As a result, it has given the world Prosecco, Soave, and Amarone della Valpolicella.
The Veneto Dinner at La Vètta is a love letter to this heritage. Baccalà mantecato, creamed salt cod, speaks of 15th-century trade. Dried cod arrived from the north and became a Venetian staple. Meanwhile, risotto al nero di seppia, coloured by squid ink and enriched with clams and crab, carries the flavour of the lagoon. In addition, tramezzini — delicate sandwiches filled with prosciutto, porcini, and radicchio — recall the cafés and bacari where Venetians linger.
The menu continues with guancia di maiale brasato. Pork neck, braised slowly in Valpolicella wine, shows how vineyard and kitchen are inseparable here. To finish, crema fritta alla Veneziana offers sweetness once reserved for Carnival and Christmas. In fact, this dessert has been part of Venetian festive tables for centuries.
